Hyde Park Neighborhood

The Hyde Park neighborhood is very diverse and extremely well located and features many services and activities. Aside from the Museum of Science and Industry, other museums are within walking distance (Smart Museum of Art, DuSable Museum of African American History, Oriental Institute, Robie House, Hyde Park Art Center). Many houses of worship are throughout Hyde Park. Two golf courses are nearby, as are the shores of Lake Michigan with many beaches, bike and walking paths, water sports, and marinas. A favorite is the Promontory Point with its spectacular views of the Chicago skyline. It is one of the few places in Chicago where open water swimming is permitted. Jackson Park, host of the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition, also offers many outdoor activities including the Japanese Gardens in the Wooded Island, nature preserves, picnic and grilling sites, baseball and soccer fields, and a dog park. Many excellent restaurants, music venues, book stores and shops are within walking distance.
